Pricing guide · Colombia 2026

How much does custom software development cost in Colombia?

Real ranges by project type, what drives the price and what a serious proposal should include. Written by a Medellín software company that quotes these projects every week, so we also tell you when it isn't worth it.

Short answer

Building custom software with a Colombian development company in 2026 typically costs US$8,000–US$15,500 for a working first version (MVP), US$15,500–US$38,000 for a full version with several modules and integrations, and more than US$38,000 for a large-scale platform. A mobile app starts around US$6,500, an online store around US$2,500 and a systems integration around US$2,000. Price depends on scope, integrations, design and urgency. These are indicative ranges from Julsmind SAS, a software company in Medellín, converted at an October 2026 reference rate of about COP 3,200 per USD; the actual figure is set in writing after a discovery session.

Full version
Several modules, user roles, reports and one or two integrations.
Large-scale platform
Multiple integrations, high volume, automation and advanced security.

What drives the price

  • Scope: how many screens and flows

The biggest driver. An MVP with one main flow costs a fraction of a platform with roles, reports and modules for several departments. Cutting scope is the most effective way to lower the price without lowering quality.

  • Integrations

Each external system (payment gateway, WhatsApp Business API, ERP or accounting software, shipping carriers, e-invoicing) adds roughly 10–20% to the project, depending on the quality of the third party's API.

  • Custom UX/UI design

User research, a clickable prototype and a bespoke visual system add around 12%. For an internal tool used by five people it is often unnecessary; for a customer-facing product it usually pays off.

  • Data migration

Moving data from spreadsheets or a legacy system costs more than it looks, because data is never clean. Budget around 8% extra.

  • Urgency

Delivering in about 20% less time costs about 20% more: more people working in parallel and less room for adjustments.

  • Support and evolution

Not part of the project price, but real: typically 8–15% of the development cost per year to fix, update and improve. A vendor who doesn't mention it is postponing the conversation.

Why companies build software in Colombia

  • Same or near time zone as US Central and Eastern time, so meetings happen during your working day.
  • A short flight from Miami and other US hubs when in-person sessions are needed.
  • A deep pool of software engineers in Medellín and Bogotá, with lower team costs than in the US.
  • Work delivered in English, with written scope, two-week demos and code owned by the client.

What a proposal should include

  • A scope document listing modules, flows and what is explicitly out of scope
  • A cost range and a timeline by phases, not a single date at the end
  • Partial deliveries every two weeks in a test environment
  • Ownership of code, repositories and accounts in your company's name
  • A warranty on defects and a clear support offer afterwards
  • A signed non-disclosure agreement before you share details

Red flags

  • A fixed price with no written scope: whatever isn't written gets billed later or never delivered.
  • A figure far below market range: it usually means the scope was misunderstood or the team will learn on your project.
  • No staging environment and no partial deliveries: you discover problems at the end.
  • Code, repositories or cloud accounts registered in the vendor's name instead of yours.
  • No warranty on defects and no support plan: the project ends the day of the final payment.
